Executive Director, Susie Kuruvilla, CPA, CPRP Appointed to the National Recreation and Park Association's Board of Directors

Susie Kuruvilla, CPA, CPRP (center),  has been appointed to the National Recreation and Park Association’s Board of Directors for the 2020-2023 term.

Gurnee Park District is proud to announce that Susie Kuruvilla, Executive Director, CPA, CPRP has been appointed to the National Recreation and Park Association's Board of Directors for the 2020-2023 term.  

For twenty-three years, Susie has been a part of Gurnee Park District; fourteen of which as the agency's Executive Director. During her tenure, the agency has achieved the National Gold Medal Award through NRPA and Distinguished Accreditation through Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA). Under Susie's leadership, the Gurnee Park District has thrived financially while maintaining standards of excellence in customer service.

"On behalf of the entire organization, I want to congratulate Susie on this national achievement," said Jim Goshorn, President, Gurnee Park District Board of Commissioners. "Her expertise and passion for providing recreational opportunities for our community coupled with exceptional handle on government finances and advocacy will make her a strong addition to NPRA's Board. Nationally, we have never had a greater need for safe, equitable access to open space and recreation in the face of such uncertainty."

Susie excels at balancing work and play and aspires to give back to the parks and recreation field at a local, state and national level. At a local level Susie works with many organizations including Healthy Communities Healthy Youth and Gurnee Exchange Club. She currently serves as Chairperson for the Health Benefits Committee with Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) and on the Board of Directors for HR Source. Recently, Susie served a five-year term as one of five judges for the NRPA Gold Medal Awards. Susie is an active member on the Joint Legislative Committee led by IAPD.

Susie holds a strong desire to impact lives by expanding parks and recreational opportunities and improving quality of life for all. "I am so honored to be able to serve at this capacity and communicate how important parks and recreation are to our citizens as well as advocate for necessary policy and funding to maintain or expand on lands and services," Kuruvilla said.
