From tot to pre-teens, Gurnee Park District playgrounds provide free, fun play for all ages. With a variety of amenities, each playground is built with safety as the number one priority. With over 15 playgrounds, the capital improvement plan includes scheduled park repairs and renovations on a yearly basis.

Fishing

Did you know you can catch and release at Hunt Club Park (900 North Hunt Club Road, Gurnee)? Please be sure to abide by the rules listed below and join us for our free summer Fishing Derby. 

Fishing Ordinances and Regulations

  • Fishing in District Waters shall comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations of the State of Illinois as administered by the Department of Natural Resources and comply with any rule or regulation or restriction posted by the District controlling the size, species and number of fish that can be taken from a designated body of water. Each fish possessed by an offender in excess of the fishing limit shall constitute a separate violation. 
  • Please be aware of signage at Hunt Club Park, which prohibit certain fishing locations.
  • Only a hook and line, using no more than two hooks per line, each line being closely attended, may be used.
  • No person shall use drugs, poisons, explosives, electricity, or missiles of any kind to fish in District Waters. 
  • No person shall dig, scratch, or otherwise disturb District Property in order to locate/take bait. 
  • Carefully and immediately return to the water any fish that does not conform to size or species restrictions imposed by any applicable state, or District law, ordinance, rule or regulation, or that the person chooses not to keep.
  • Ice fishing is prohibited on any District Waters.

Ice Rinks and Sled Hill

Hours: Sunrise - 8:00 pm for all outdoor rinks and sled hill. 

All ice rinks and sledding at Park District locations are unsupervised and for recreational use. For condition status of the following rinks and sled hill, please visit Rainout Line or call 847-268-2080. Conditions vary daily. Misuse of outdoor rinks can damage liners and result in permanent closures for the season. We appreciate your cooperation. 

Remember to practice social distancing when visiting our ice rinks, hockey rink or sled hill.

  • Ice Rink
    • Use ice rink facilities at your own risk
    • Ice rink is not supervised
    • Park District programs have priority use
    • Private lessons or programs not contracted through the district are prohibited
    • Proper ice skates must be worn
    • Children under 12 must be supervised
    • Refrain from fighting and foul language
    • Rink use is for ice skating/hockey only
    • Outdoor rinks close at 8:00 pm 
  • Sled Hill
    • Use sled hill at your own risk
    • Sled hill is not supervised
    • Private lessons or programs not contracted through the district are prohibited
    • Proper sleds must be used, no snowboards
    • Children under 12 must be supervised
    • Use caution when sledding and be considerate of others
    • Walk to the top of the sled hill along the fenced sides of the hill to avoid collisions
    • Sled down the hill only when it is clear of others
    • Sledding is permitted only in designated areas
    • No jumps, ramps or similar devices are permitted
    • Sled hill closes at 8:00 pm 
  • The following criteria must be met in order to develop skateable ice:
    • 5-7 inches of ground frost
    • Average temperatures of 20 degrees Fahrenheit or colder for five consecutive days
    • Minimum of five days to spray and freeze to make ice
    • Periodic sweeping and resurfacing as needed depending on weather conditions.
