Directions/Walk Details: Fairly level crushed gravel 3-mile looping path. Not much shade. Pets welcome. Overflow parking 1 block East in the baseball complex with direct access to the trail.
Directions/Walk Details: Street Parking only. There is a nice ½ mile woodchip nature trail in the woods. From there we can add on another mile by walking around the block. Woods may be buggy. Pets allowed. No bathrooms.
Directions/Walk Details: Two connecting loops totaling 3.5 miles. Crushed gravel. Mostly flat but there are a few gently rolling hills. There is an additional 1-mile side loop (woodchip base) which is quite hilly and extremely beautiful for those wanting a bit more of a challenge. It goes down into a ravine and back up again. Outhouse by the parking lot. Some shade. Pets allowed.
Directions/Walk Details: We’ll be doing something different this time. We will walk the Des Plaines River Trail WEST towards Milwaukee Avenue. We’ll meet in the usual picnic shelter of Independence Grove but will then walk the DPRT. Once you enter Independence Grove go to the LEFT and head all the way to the end for parking. Note, they may check your ID at the gate. Entry is free for Lake County residents but you will need your ID to show you live in Lake County. Pets are not allowed at Independence Grove but they ARE allowed on the Des Plaines River Trail. Much of the trail will be protected from the wind by trees. Some hills but mostly flat. Gravel trail. Bathrooms near the parking lot, only 2 or 3 benches along the trail. 1 mile to Milwaukee and back or 4.3 miles to the long bridge and back.
Directions/Walk Details: This is a 2.2-mile gravel trail with a few gently rolling hills. Pets welcome. Limited parking so if you can car pool, please do.
Directions/Walk Details: Once you enter the preserve, go to the ring road and turn right (it’s one-way). We’ll meet in the 1st parking lot on the right once you enter the 1-way road. Look for the sign, “Shelter A, B, Picnic Sites”. We will take the 2.5-mile Yellow Trail around the perimeter of the preserve. Shorter trails are also available. Crushed gravel. Quite flat. Pets welcome.
Directions/Walk Details: Take Dada Drive between Route 45 & Almond Road to Ravinia Drive. Go South to the parking lot. 1.5-mile trail. Some paved. Some hard packed gravel. Mostly flat. Pets allowed. Overflow parking on the street.

Directions/Walk Details: Join us for a volunteering opportunity at Northern Illinois Food Bank! We will be helping from 9:00-11:30am by sorting and packaging food to be delivered to those in need. Please note, there are only 25 slots – once all slots are full, we will not be able to accommodate additional volunteers (ages 8+) so, register early! PROPER DRESS includes sneakers or work boots, long shorts or pants, and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. For your safety, medical boots are not allowed. Dress for weather when working for all outdoor Grocery Distribution opportunities.
WEAR FULLY ENCLOSED, LOW-HEELED SHOES on the day of your shift. Volunteers wearing open-toed shoes, sandals, flip flops, soccer slides, CROCS, KEENs, high heels, slippers etc. will not be allowed to work in the warehouse under any circumstances.
JEWELRY may need to be removed for some projects. The Food Bank is not responsible for lost or stolen items; please leave valuables at home.
ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EARLY in order to sign in and attend a brief orientation prior to your shift. We cannot accept volunteers later than 30 minutes after the shift has begun.
VOLUNTEERS MUST BE AT LEAST 8 YEARS OF AGE, and minors must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older for the duration of the volunteer shift.
CHAPERONE MUST ACCOMPANY MINOR VOLUNTEERS. A ratio of 1 adult for every 4 youth ages 8-12 and a ratio of 1 adult for every 10 youth ages 13-15 is required.
