Youth Basketball and Restore Illinois 

A modified program will be offered based on the Restore Illinois All Sports Policy. 

Basketball is now classified as a high risk sport which can participate in level 1 play levels. Level 1 is no-contact practices, trainings only. To comply with these guidelines, teams will have non-contact practices and monthly skills competitions. All basketball programs will be held at Hunt Club Park Community Center. 

Youth leagues are available for boys and girls in grades 1 - 8. Junior Dribblers (grades 1 -2) is a co-ed league, with grades 3 - 8 participating by grade level.

Youth Basketball League Overview 

Junior Dribblers (1st - 2nd Grade) 

The players will use junior size basketballs and play on lowered hoops. This instructional league will be co-ed.

The Junior Dribblers league will meet for 1 hour each week and have same safety protocols as the youth basketball league. 

Youth Basketball League (3rd - 8th Grade) 

Each age group will be divided into teams with a maximum of 12 players each. Age groups may be combined if numbers are low. Boys and girls will be on separate teams.

League information: 

  • Teams will meet once a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes 
  • Non-contact practices will be held. Meaning, no scrimmages, 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3, drills with defense, etc. 
  • Practices will focus on learning and improving shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, positioning and conditioning.  
  • The last team practices of each month will host skills competitions. 
    • Prizes will be awarded to top finishers 
    • Competitions will include free throw contests, 3 point contests, team relays and skills obstacle courses. 

Additional Youth Basketball League Information: 

  • In person player evaluations will not be held this season 
  • Each player will receive a reversible jersey 

Youth Basketball Safety Protocols 

Please adhere to the following safety protocols. 

  • Face coverings are required at all times for coaches and players 
  • No spectators will be allowed in the building 
  • Drop off will be curbside 
  • Additional players will not be added once a team roster is set 
  • All equipment will be disinfected between practices

Game and Practice Schedules

This season, Gurnee Park District Basketball will be played at Hunt Club Park Community Center, 920 Hunt Club Road.

Gurnee Park District Youth Basketball Coaches

If your child is in the youth basketball league, you will be assigned to coach your child's team. When selected, the Athletics Supervisor will reach out with additional details for the season.
